In a world often confined by the boundaries of what we can see, touch, and comprehend, it’s essential to reflect on a profound truth: our understanding is inherently limited. However, this limitation should not deter us from embracing the immeasurable wisdom and boundless nature of God.

As the scriptures tell us in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” This verse serves as a reminder that God’s ways transcend our human comprehension.

Ephesians 3:20-21 further reinforces this concept: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” The immeasurable power and potential of God exceed our wildest dreams.

While we are created in the image of God, it’s crucial to recognize that we are not God, and God is not us. He is ‘otherly,’ existing beyond the limits of our understanding. God’s abilities are eternally unlimited. Regardless of the vastness of creation, God is capable of accomplishing “all things.”

The fundamental question we face is whether we believe in God as He truly is or if we constrain Him within the confines of our limited understanding. Constructing a version of God that aligns with our comprehension may seem well-intentioned or meaningful, but it can lead to idolatry. An idol, whether constructed from physical materials or limited thoughts, cannot bear the weight of life’s complexities.

True surrender involves yielding to something or someone stronger and better positioned than ourselves. To unlock the profound mysteries of God, we must embark on a journey of exploration and discovery. It’s not enough to know about God; we must “go to know” Him through faith. He is the unchanging “I AM” who always remains true to His nature.

In a world that encourages us to confine our beliefs to the tangible and explainable, we must challenge ourselves to transcend these limits. Let us acknowledge the immeasurable wisdom and boundless nature of God, for He is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” As we surrender and explore, we draw closer to the magnificent “otherly” God who is always present and ever-faithful.
