Who Is Valor Disciples

Valor Disciples is currently Tom Garvin

I am excited to meet you! I am Tom Garvin, the founder of Valor Disciples Inc, a  501C Non-profit, birthed in August 2023. With over 65 years life experience with unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ since 1977, I eagerly embark on this new journey of faith and service.

I am a husband to a lovely and amazing wife, blessed with a beautiful marriage and four wonderful children. Presently, I am enjoying the role of a proud grandparent to seven adorable grandchildren. Throughout my fulfilling career in the corporate landscape, I have thrived in the technology sector, collaborating with esteemed enterprises and visionary business leaders. My journey includes remarkable years at my self-founded software company, Pfizer/Warner Lambert, Nabisco, Kraft, SuperValu, Cadbury, and culminating as the Chief of Staff to the Chief Technology Officer at Sysco. Each experience has enriched my expertise and deepened my commitment to excellence.

In 1977, I had a divine experience with the Lord. Since then, I’ve been deeply eager to understand God’s true nature. I want to go beyond just hearing stories from others. This journey has been exciting and challenging, changing me at my core.

With strong determination, I’ve discovered more about God’s character that aligns with what He has revealed. As mentioned in Philippians 1:6, He started a good work in me and is continuing to finish it.

In 2019, I left my job in the corporate world. I chose to spend my time in thoughtful devotion. Every day is another chance for me to pray and follow His guidance. As I’ve intentionally trusted Him with all my heart and have avoided trying to do things myself, I’ve been acknowledging Him in prayer and He has been directing my steps. And now I am ‘here.’

Where is that? you may ask….

For months and years, like you, I’ve been deeply troubled by the state of the world and the Christian church’s well-being. The world’s troubles have brought many people into a state of hopelessness and need. Since I first met the Lord in 1977, I’ve been committed to truly understanding His essence. This exploration has shown me that only a few really know Him. Even as we try to be good, we often feel spiritually empty.

When I embraced my faith, I wanted to embody the best parts of being a follower of God. I aimed to live a humble, honorable life with my family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and others. This led me to help people connect with God and connect with God together. In my work, I’ve supported many people on their Christian journeys.

I’ve done this through texts, emails, conversations, and shared book readings, all to encourage collective thinking and spiritual growth. This is my purpose and calling in life: to keep growing as a disciple and guide others on their paths. Some now see me as a ‘virtual’ pastor, coach, mentor, and friend.

I believe that the only way we can truly witness a transformation in this world is by people actually changing. This process occurs when we take the time to seek and respond to His guidance, learn from Him through His Word, renew our minds, and actively embrace and exercise His promises. Through this journey, we undergo a profound, actual  transformation to resemble Him more closely – an awe-inspiring endeavor! As an increasing number of individuals experience this process through intentional discipleship, where we engage in prayerful communion with God,  and respond to His direction, we will literlly be changed and begin to mirror the teachings of Jesus,  the world thereby shifts for the better. This occurs not through forced change, but through the genuine authenticity of people living in alignment with their beliefs. This realization is quite astonishing!

That’s who I am in a nutshell – merely another of His creations, similar to you, with a fervent desire to reach out to others on behalf of Him and to connect people with Him. I am here, available and open, extending my hand to you. Discipleship thrives on examples and companionship. It’s possible that I can provide assistance to you, just as you might offer your support to me (see Donations).
