EMPATHY<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Have you ever seen The Truman Show?<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a 1998 American comedy-drama film. The film depicts the story of Truman Burbank (played by Jim Carrey, a man who is unaware that he is living his entire life on a colossal soundstage and that it is being filmed and broadcast as a reality television show which has a huge international following. All of his friends, family and members of his community are paid actors whose job it is to sustain the illusion and keep Truman unaware about the false world he inhabits.<\/p>\n How aware are we of the world which we inhabit? <\/strong><\/p>\n There is more than what we see.<\/p>\n Spiritual Prisoners<\/strong><\/p>\n Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26<\/sup> and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.<\/strong> 2 Timothy 2:25-26<\/em><\/p>\n Ignorant Spiritual Prisoners <\/strong><\/p>\n The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers<\/strong>, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4<\/em><\/p>\n Blind Spiritual Prisoners Of spiritual War \u00a0who are unaware!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one<\/strong>. 1 John 5:19<\/em><\/p>\n How incredibly sad!<\/strong><\/p>\n What is our response? What should be our response?<\/p>\n For those of us who once were blind by now we see\u2026What is it that we see?\u00a0 Can we see dead men walking?<\/p>\n We need to have the sixth sense of spiritual vision<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n How often do we read a Facebook or Instagram post, hear a cable news pundit, listen to a politician, \u00a0hear a celebrity pontificate, read a blog, email or news reports and get disgusted!<\/p>\n We get shocked by what people say or do.\u00a0 We make righteous judgements.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t believe what they just said!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cHow can they believe that?!\u201d \u201cThese people are evil!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey should know better..\u201d<\/p>\n No! \u00a0We should know better!<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 What should we expect?\u00a0 These are poor, blind, prisoners of war who don\u2019t even know they are captive!\u00a0 HOW INCREDIBLY SAD!<\/p>\n em\u00b7pa\u00b7thy \/?emp?TH?\/ noun<\/em><\/p>\n Out of all the people in the world, Christians should have the most loving empathy for others.<\/p>\n Jesus did\/does \u00e0 \u201cFather forgive them, they know not what they do\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s not that there is not right and wrong or good and evil.\u00a0 There is.\u00a0 Sin is real and ALL people have sinned and fallen short.\u00a0 But, some of us have been brought to our senses, our minds no longer controlled, our freedom returned to us, our eyes now can see.\u00a0 We are those who should be humbly grateful as we have been rescued from the dominion of darkness. (Col 1:13)<\/em><\/p>\n We are free while so many are not and know it not!<\/p>\n How is it we would treat a blind person trying to get on a subway?\u00a0 Or a mentally disabled person attempting to cross the street?\u00a0 Would we think to ourselves, how can they act this way? (they are not acting).\u00a0 Would we scream at them?\u00a0 Would we proudly prove our superiority over them?\u00a0 Well, of course not- at least we ought not!<\/p>\n This is not a parable or an analogy.\u00a0 It is the truth<\/strong>.\u00a0 We live amongst blind, clueless, hapless, hopeless, helpless, lost people just trying to survive life but unable to live life.<\/p>\n If we could look at the news, read the posts, hear the pundits and see people as shackled, mislead and \u00a0programmed might we treat them differently?\u00a0 Might we have empathy for them?
