STOP TRYING!

“I am trying to trust God” – how often have I said that or heard someone say that?

Usually, we might say such a thing when we are having some difficulty and we are feeling anxious about the outcome.  We may have been encouraged that if we trust God, He will work all things together for good.  “Sounds good, let me go try”.  And off we go, to do what?

After many years of experience, I have learned to interpret “I am trying” as actually meaning a) I don’t know how to trust Him or b) I’m not trusting Him.

Trying to trust God isn’t a real action.  It is something that you can spend your whole life thinking you are doing and yet aren’t doing anything. It can be an exhausting deception, an excuse, a barrier because the only way to trust God is to actually trust Him. Trying is synonymous with Not trusting.

Are you trusting God? It actually takes no effort unless we see surrender, as an effort. Surrender though is a giving up – not a doing something.

If you are trusting God, you know there is no need to try.  Trying is a deceptive place holder for unbelief.

What if I don’t know how to trust God?

Well, I think the Bible helps us with this one.

James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”   Said another way, If  we only hear and even agree with what is purported to be true and we don’t’ do what it says, we will be deceived.

What will we be deceived into thinking?  We will think that we are trusting and believing when we are not.

Question:  When we are deceived, do we know it?  NO! O fcourse not, that’s the definition of deceive.      How scary!

I was talking with some friends the other day  about faith and our relationship with God.  Danny explained the beauty of truth is that it is singular.  What is true, is true.  The Bible teaches us that it is truth that sets us free?  Truth is the only key to actual freedom.  It frees us from relentless, frustrating, discouraging  ‘trying’.   Danny went on to ask,  “what is 2 + 2?”  We dutifully replied “4”.  Danny responded, “Correct, now tell me all the wrong answers to 2+ 2”.

The point is well made. There are infinite wrong answers, wrong approaches to life, wrong thoughts and actions – untruths.  Jesus stated that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, that God’s Word is truth.

If we believe, we will accept and do what He says.   If we are trying to believe, sadly, we are not.

I often say “We have to go, to know”  Exploring God, discovering God, exercising His promises, doing His Word is “going to know’.  Let’s not nod our head in agreement and then run in place, let’s go! And when you go, you will know.

Seeing might aid in believing – Trying is not believing.

Please Stop Trying – Seek and You will find.

Dear Moron de Idiot…I trust you are resting in His reality vs trying to trust Him….As a buffoon myself, at times we can fall prey to things that feel like worthy efforts that are simply distractions.
